LANSA-MSSRF India national policy meet endorsed urgency to tackle undernutrition

M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) , lead institution of the research programme consortium Leveraging Agriculture for Nutrition in South Asia (LANSA) in collaboration with Coalition for Food and Nutrition Security (CFNS) organised a National Public Policy Consultation on 'Leveraging Agriculture for Nutrition in India' on July 29, 2016 in New Delhi.

The high-level consultation brought together several dignitaries representing key policy-makers, policy influencers, development partners, food and nutrition security experts, etc. Addressing undernutrition in India was recognised unanimously as a multi-sectoral approach, with central and state governments as well as development agencies concurring that agriculture must be more nutrition-sensitive to tackle the malnutrition problem of such high magnitude.

The event witnessed almost 100 eminent and enthusiastic participants, including government officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, as well as from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Policy Advisors from Niti Aayog, also State Advisor to Commissioners, Supreme Court of India.
