About DFID

The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK government’s work to end extreme poverty. DFID is working to reduce the need for aid by creating jobs, unlocking the potential of girls and women and helping to save lives when humanitarian emergencies hit.

In the government’s position paper ‘Scaling Up Nutrition’ DFID declares a crucial role for research. “We will be achieving our results in nutrition through scaling up programmes where there is evidence of fast and sustainable impact.... and we will work with others to fill knowledge gaps and generate new research on what works...”
