Avinash Kishore

Avinash Kishore is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at IFPRI.  He has a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University and a Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton University. Avinash studied at IRMA and worked for four years with International Water Management Institute (IWMI) before going to the US for higher studies. He is interested in agriculture, environment, and development economics and works on projects that seek to bridge the gap between laboratories and farms in Indian agriculture using action research in collaboration with agricultural universities, agribusiness firms and farmers.

Derek Headey

Derek Headey is a Senior Research Fellow in the Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division at the International Food Policy Research Institute, where he joined as a postdoctoral fellow in 2008. A development economist, his research mostly focuses on the nexus between agricultural development and other development processes and outcomes, such as economic growth, structural change, poverty, nutrition, demographic change, and political processes.

For LANSA

Derek will being doing research on the impact of agricultural production condition on household and individual food consumption in Bangladesh, as well as child nutrition outcomes. He will also do work on the drivers of nutritional change in Bangladesh.
 

John McDermott

John leads the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Improved Nutrition and Health. Previously, he was deputy director general and director of research at the International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi.

John’s research has focused on public health, animal health, and livestock research in developing countries, primarily Africa. He has led projects on zoonotic and emerging diseases in Asia and Africa.

MARA VAN DEN BOLD

Mara van den BoldMara van den Bold IFPRI is a Research Analyst in IFPRI’s Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division (PHND). Prior to joining IFPRI, Mara worked in London at WaterAid, an international NGO focused on improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Mara holds an MSc in Anthropology and Development from the London School of Economics (LSE), and a BA in Anthropology and Latin American Studies from Union College, NY.

Mara works with Stuart Gillespie on the Enabling Environments research theme. She contributed significantly to stakeholder interviews in early 2014, conducting interviews in India, supporting the research uptake team and coding and analysing the results.

Stuart Gillespie

A Senior Research Fellow at IFPRI and theme leader on nutrition policy, Stuart Gillespie has initiated and managed several large-scale, multi-partner projects and networks including the Agriculture and Health Research Platform, TANDI and Transform Nutrition. After being awarded a PhD in Human Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1988, and prior to joining IFPRI in 1999, Stuart worked with a range of organizations including the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition, UNICEF, World Bank, FAOWFP, USAIDADB, Micronutrient Initiative on nutrition and food security in Asia. Stuart has published 142 papers and 9 books.

Stuart is one of two Co-Research Directors for LANSA and is part of the Management team. Stuart leads the research theme, enabling environment for nutrition.
